what's the biggest hole i can drill in wood with my makita xfd131?

— asked by Sam

Maximum drilling capacity in wood is 38 mm (1-1/2 inches). In steel, it's 13 mm (1/2 inch).

For best results in wood:

  • Use wood drill bits equipped with a guide screw. The guide screw pulls the bit into the workpiece.
  • Do not press excessively. This damages the bit tip, reduces performance, and shortens tool life.
  • For large diameters, use the Low speed setting (0-500 RPM) for more control.

For metal:

  • Center-punch the hole location first.
  • Use a cutting lubricant (except for iron and brass, which should be drilled dry).

Heads up: Always secure the workpiece. Hold the tool firmly with both hands during any drilling operation.
