Optimal placement depends on your goal: temperature accuracy or occupancy detection.
For balanced temperature throughout the home, place sensors in rooms that run hotter or cooler than the rest of the house. This helps minimize hot/cold spots.
For optimal temperature reading accuracy:
- Mount the sensor at a height of 4 feet (1.2 m).
- Avoid direct sunlight, vents, fans, exterior walls, and windows.
For optimal occupancy detection and pet immunity:
- Mount the sensor at a height of 6.5 feet (2 m).
- Place it about four feet off the ground facing the entire room for a 140° horizontal, 100° vertical field of view.
- Occupancy is accurate to a distance of 20 feet (6 m).
During pairing, you'll be asked which Comfort Settings (Home, Away, Sleep) you want each sensor to participate in. For a bedroom sensor used only at night, select only the Sleep Comfort Setting.
