can i use pre-ground espresso in my mr coffee 12-cup programmable machine? or does it have to be regular coffee grind?

— asked by Riley

You can, but it'll probably clog the filter and make a mess. The machine is designed for standard drip grind.

Espresso grind is much finer. It can compact in the filter basket, restricting water flow. This can cause the basket to overflow, sending wet grounds into the carafe and potentially overflowing the unit. If you try it, use a much smaller amount than you would drip coffee and be ready to stop the cycle if it starts to overflow.

If that didn't work: If you've already done it and caused a clog, you'll need to clean the sprayhead and the basket area thoroughly. Unplug the unit, let it cool, and remove all wet grounds.

Heads up: For best results and to avoid damage, stick to a medium drip grind. This machine doesn't have the pressure needed for proper espresso extraction anyway.
