The presence of a solid Wi-Fi light on the Epson EcoTank ET-2800 indicates that the printer has successfully authenticated with your router, but it does not guarantee that the computer can establish a bidirectional communication path. This "invisible printer" syndrome usually occurs because of a mismatch between the computer's network profile and the printer's IP assignment. If your Windows or macOS network profile is set to "Public," the operating system disables "Network Discovery," effectively hiding the printer from the computer to protect the device from external threats. Furthermore, the ET-2800 often suffers from "IP Drift." If the printer is set to DHCP (Automatic IP), the router may assign it a new IP address after a power flicker or lease expiration. Since the Epson driver on your PC is looking for the printer at the old IP address (e.g., 192.168.1.15), it will report that the printer is offline even though the printer is technically connected to the internet. You can confirm this by attempting to "ping" the printer's current IP address via the Command Prompt; if the ping fails, the issue is a network block; if it succeeds but the printer is still "missing," the issue is a driver port mismatch.
How to Fix It
To resolve the communication gap and lock the connection, follow these exact steps to manually map the printer via its current network identity:
- On the ET-2800 control panel, press the Home button, navigate to Setup > Network Settings > View Network Status. Write down the exact IP address displayed (e.g., 192.168.1.22).
- On your Windows PC, click the Start menu and type "Network Status." Ensure your connection is set to Private. If it is set to "Public," go to Settings > Network & Internet > Properties and change the Network Profile to Private.
- Open the Control Panel > Devices and Printers. Right-click your ET-2800 (which likely shows as "Offline") and select Printer Properties.
- Click the Ports tab and then click Add Port....
- Select Standard TCP/IP Port and click New Port....
- In the "Printer Name or IP Address" field, enter the exact IP address you noted from the printer's screen. Click Next and then Finish.
- Back in the Ports tab, ensure the checkbox for the new TCP/IP port is selected, then click Apply and OK.
- Restart the Epson Status Monitor utility to refresh the connection.
If That Didn't Work
- Disable the Windows Firewall temporarily: Go to Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Defender Firewall. Turn off the firewall for your private network for 5 minutes. If the printer suddenly appears, you need to add an "Inbound Rule" for the Epson Port (UDP 161 and TCP 9100) to allow the printer traffic through the firewall.
- Perform a Hard Network Reset: On the printer, go to Setup > Restore Default Settings > Network Settings. Power the printer off, unplug the router for 30 seconds, and plug everything back in. Re-run the Epson Connect setup utility to re-establish the handshake from scratch.
- Check for 2.4GHz vs 5GHz Conflict: The ET-2800 only supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. If your router uses "Smart Connect" (combining both bands into one SSID), the computer may be on 5GHz while the printer is on 2.4GHz, and some routers prevent cross-band communication. Create a separate 2.4GHz guest network specifically for the printer.
- Reinstall using the "Standalone" Driver: Uninstall the "Epson Software Suite" and instead download only the "Printer Driver" and "Scanner Driver" separately from the Epson support site. The full suite often installs bloated bloatware that can clash with third-party antivirus software like Norton or McAfee.

- Set a Static IP: To prevent this from happening again, access your router's admin panel and assign a "DHCP Reservation" to the printer's MAC address. This ensures the IP address never changes.
- Avoid "WPS" Setup: While the WPS button is convenient, it is prone to failure on the ET-2800. Always use the manual Wi-Fi setup via the control panel for a more stable connection.
- Update Firmware: Use the Epson Software Updater on your PC to check for firmware updates. Early versions of the ET-2800 had known "sleep mode" bugs where the Wi-Fi card would shut down and fail to wake up.
- Disable "Quiet Mode": In some rare cases, enabling "Quiet Mode" in the settings can interfere with the power delivery to the network card during heavy print jobs; keep this off if you experience intermittent disconnects.
