DIAGNOSIS The washable foam filter is located behind the front grille. It is held by friction and can feel 'stuck' if not pulled from the correct location.
FIX Power the unit off. Press the two release tabs on the sides of the front grille and pull the grille toward you. The gray foam filter is now exposed. Grip it by the top edge and pull straight out. Rinse it under lukewarm water. Let it air dry completely before reinserting. Snap the grille back on.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK If the filter is torn or degraded, order replacement part FPAC1401WT from Black+Decker. Do not operate the unit without a filter, as it will rapidly clog the evaporator coils with dust.
HEADS UP Clean the filter every two weeks of operation. A clogged filter is the primary cause of reduced cooling performance and can lead to the unit freezing up.
