DIAGNOSIS Error code E1 indicates a room temperature sensor fault. This often occurs if the sensor probe is dislodged or damaged during setup or storage.

FIX Unplug the unit. Remove the front grille by pressing the tabs on each side. Locate the small, thin metal probe (the temperature sensor) near the evaporator coils. Ensure it is properly seated in its clip and not bent. Reassemble the grille. Plug the unit back in.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The sensor wiring may have a loose connection on the control board. This requires disassembly of the main chassis to inspect. Consider contacting Black+Decker support for a service manual or repair.
