Diagnosis
The Lux Kono Smart Thermostat is designed with an "Adaptive Recovery" logic and a pre-programmed Smart Schedule that prioritizes energy efficiency over immediate user input. When you manually adjust the temperature, the device enters a "Temporary Hold" state. Once the time for the next scheduled event arrives, the thermostat automatically snaps back to the programmed setpoint, making it feel as though the device is ignoring your manual overrides. This behavior is rooted in the thermostat's internal clock and its attempt to "anticipate" the target temperature. If Adaptive Recovery is enabled, the system calculates how long it takes to heat or cool your home and will trigger the HVAC system early to hit the target exactly at the scheduled time. To confirm this is happening, look for the "Hold" or "Scheduled" icon on the main display; if the temperature jumps back to a specific number (like 68°F or 72°F) at a precise time of day, the scheduling engine is overriding your manual control.
How to Fix It
To completely strip the scheduling logic and convert your Lux Kono into a manual-only thermostat, follow these exact steps on the device interface:
- Press the Menu button on the main screen to enter the system settings.
- Navigate using the arrow keys to find the Schedule option and press the center select button.
- Select Schedule Type. You will see options for 5-2, 5-1-1, or Manual. Select Manual (No Schedule). This effectively wipes the active calendar and stops the device from triggering temperature changes based on the time of day.
- Press the Back or Home button to return to the main menu.
- Navigate back into Menu, then select Preferences.
- Scroll down to Adaptive Recovery. Change this setting from "On" to Off. This prevents the thermostat from starting your furnace or AC early to "predict" a temperature goal.
- Press Save or Done to lock in these changes. Your thermostat will now remain at the temperature you set manually until you physically change it again.
If That Didn't Work
- Check the Lux App Override: If you have the Lux Kono app installed on your smartphone, the app may be pushing a "Cloud Schedule" that overrides local device settings. Open the app, go to the Thermostat Settings, and toggle "Smart Scheduling" to OFF. If the app is synced to a utility company's "Demand Response" program, you may need to opt-out of the energy-saving program via the utility provider's portal to regain full manual control.
- Perform a Hard Reset: If the menu settings are glitching and the schedule persists, perform a factory reset to clear the NVRAM. Remove the thermostat faceplate from the wall bracket, locate the reset pinhole or button on the back of the unit, and hold it for 10 seconds while powering the unit back on. This wipes all custom schedules and returns the unit to a "dumb" manual state.
- Inspect the C-Wire Power: In rare cases, unstable power delivery via the C-wire can cause the thermostat to reboot and revert to default factory schedules. Ensure the 24V AC power from your transformer is steady. If you are using a power extender kit (PEK), ensure the wiring is tight; a loose connection can trigger a "soft reset" that re-activates default settings.
Heads Up
- Temporary vs. Permanent Hold: If you ever decide to use a schedule again, remember that clicking the temp arrows creates a "Temporary Hold." To keep a temperature until you change it again, you must select "Permanent Hold" from the screen options.
- Battery Backup: If your model uses batteries as a backup, replace them annually. Low voltage can sometimes cause the internal clock to drift, leading to erratic schedule triggers.
- Sensor Interference: Ensure the thermostat is not mounted near a drafty window or a heat-producing appliance. If the unit detects a rapid temp swing, it may trigger a recovery cycle regardless of your schedule settings.
- Firmware Updates: Check the app for firmware updates. Earlier versions of the Kono software had a known bug where "Manual Mode" would spontaneously switch back to "5-2 Schedule" after a power flicker.
