Diagnosis
The porous nature of plastic, even high-quality Tritan, can absorb strong odors from foods like garlic, onion, or spicy peppers.
How to Fix It
Fill the pitcher with warm water and add two tablespoons of baking soda. Let it soak for several hours or overnight. Scrub it with a soft brush, then rinse. For stubborn smells, use a paste of baking soda and water directly on the interior and let it sit for an hour before rinsing.
If That Didn't Work
Try a vinegar solution. Fill the pitcher about 1/4 with white vinegar, then top it up with warm water. Let it soak for a few hours. The acetic acid neutralizes the odor compounds. Rinse thoroughly.
Heads Up
Do not use bleach or strong chemical cleaners, as they can degrade the plastic and leave their own permanent smell. Also, avoid using very hot water for soaking, as it can slightly warp the pitcher over time.
