DIAGNOSIS Odors are trapped in the plastic and the rubber sealing gasket. Garlic and onion oils are the worst.
FIX Fill the container halfway with warm water. Add two drops of dish soap and a teaspoon of white vinegar or baking soda. Secure the lid. Run on high for 30-60 seconds. Rinse thoroughly. For stubborn smells, repeat with just water and a few lemon wedges or citrus peels.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The odor is in the gasket. Remove the blade assembly. Pull out the gray silicone gasket. Soak it in a bowl of hot water with baking soda for an hour. Scrub it, dry it, and reinstall.
HEADS UP Never use bleach or abrasive cleaners on the container. They can degrade the plastic and leave a chemical taste. The container is top-rack dishwasher safe, but hand washing the blade base is best.
