Diagnosis
The ice maker is either turned off, too warm, or has a stuck mechanism. These units are sensitive to temperature.
How to Fix It
First, check the obvious: is the ice maker ON? Look for a little wire arm or a switch on the side of the ice maker unit inside the freezer. If the arm is up, it’s off. Lower it to the down position. If it’s a button, press it. Next, check the freezer temp. It needs to be at 0°F or colder for the ice maker to cycle. Let it run for 24 hours at the correct temp. If still nothing, manually trigger a cycle. 1) Remove the ice bucket. 2) You’ll see a plastic test button on the front of the ice maker. Press and hold it for about 3 seconds with a pen. You should hear a whirring sound and the ice maker should go through a full cycle, trying to drop any ice and then refill.
If That Didn't Work
If it didn’t cycle with the test button, the issue could be the water fill. Make sure the water dispenser works (see the other fix). If the water works but the ice maker doesn’t fill, the water inlet valve for the ice maker might be faulty or the little water tube leading to it might be frozen. This often requires a service call to diagnose.
Heads Up
If your kitchen is very humid, the ice cubes can fuse together in the bin. When the ice maker tries to eject them, they won’t drop, and it shuts down thinking it’s full. Break up the ice in the bin every few days to prevent this.
