installed an e130 but it seems to short cycle, runs for like 5 minutes and shuts off over and over

— asked by Casey

Quick answer: The unit is satisfying its internal humidistat too quickly. This is almost always because the wall control's sensing location is poor or the dehumidifier's own internal sensor is getting a false reading.

Diagnosis

The unit is satisfying its internal humidistat too quickly. This is almost always because the wall control's sensing location is poor or the dehumidifier's own internal sensor is getting a false reading.

How to Fix It

Relocate the wall humidistat. It should not be mounted near a supply air vent, in a hallway, or near the dehumidifier itself.

  • Choose a representative room (like a central living area) on an interior wall.
  • Rerun the low-voltage wire to the new location.
  • Set the humidistat 2-3% higher than your desired level to account for the lag time of conditioning the whole house.

If That Didn't Work

The E130 has an onboard sensor for its "Auto" mode. If you're using that mode, the unit may be reading duct conditions. Switch to controlling it solely with the wall humidistat (set wall control to "ON" and adjust setpoint there).

Heads Up

Short cycling kills efficiency and wears out the compressor. If the unit is oversized for your space (rare with whole-home), you may need to adjust the fan cycle settings via dip switches on the board—consult the installer guide for this advanced step.
