Diagnosis
The unit is operating but not removing moisture. Most likely a refrigerant leak (system is low on charge) or the evaporator coil is frozen solid from low airflow.
How to Fix It
Check for a frozen coil first.
- Turn the unit off.
- Remove the panel and inspect the larger copper coil (evaporator). If it's iced over, you have an airflow problem.
- Replace or clean the air filter. Ensure all duct dampers are open and the blower is running.
- Let the ice melt completely (may take hours) before restarting.
If That Didn't Work
If the coil is cold and wet but not frozen, and airflow is good, the system is likely low on refrigerant. You'll see oily residue on the copper lines. This requires a licensed HVAC technician to find the leak, repair, and recharge.
