Diagnosis
The E1 error is a high pressure cutout. The refrigerant pressure in the system is too high, usually from a dirty or blocked coil, a failed condenser fan, or low airflow.
How to Fix It
Turn off the unit at the control and the breaker. The most common fix is cleaning the condenser coil.
- Remove the service panel to access the coil.
- Vacuum loose dust and debris from the coil fins.
- Use a soft brush and coil cleaner (non-acidic) to clean thoroughly. Rinse if directed.
- Ensure the area around the unit is clear and the filter is clean. Restore power.
If That Didn't Work
Check that the condenser fan is running when the unit tries to start. If it's silent, the fan motor or capacitor may have failed, causing the pressure to spike instantly.
Heads Up
If you're not comfortable with electrical components, stop at cleaning. Diagnosing fan motors and capacitors requires a multimeter and should be done by a tech.
