The pixelation occurring on your JADENS Bluetooth Thermal Printer is almost always a result of "interpolation" or "downsampling." Because this printer uses a 203 DPI (dots per inch) thermal head, it requires a precise 1:1 mapping of pixels to heat elements. When the software—whether it's the mobile app or a Windows driver—attempts to "Fit to Page" or "Scale to Fit," it recalculates the barcode's dimensions. This shifts the vertical bars of the barcode slightly off the physical heating elements, creating "fuzzy" edges or gaps that a laser scanner cannot interpret as a clean line.
Another common cause is the "Dithering" setting in the driver. Thermal printers are binary (either a dot is black or white); they cannot print gray. If your label is being sent as a grayscale image rather than a pure black-and-white bitmap, the printer attempts to simulate gray by creating a pattern of tiny dots (dithering). This breaks the solid lines of the barcode, making it look pixelated or "grainy" to the naked eye and completely unreadable to USPS or FedEx scanners.
How to Fix It
To resolve this, you must force the printer to treat the label as a raw bitmap at 100% scale. Follow these exact steps based on your platform:
- For Mobile (iOS/Android App): Open the label preview screen. Locate the "Print Settings" or "Page Setup" menu. Change the scaling option from "Fit to Page" or "Shrink to Fit" to "Actual Size" or "100%". If there is a "Print Quality" toggle, ensure it is set to "High" or "Standard," avoiding any "Draft" modes.
- For Windows Driver: Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers. Right-click the JADENS printer and select Printing Preferences.
- Navigate to the "Page Setup" tab. Ensure the paper size is explicitly set to 4" x 6" (101.6mm x 152.4mm). If the paper size is set to a default like "Letter," the printer will scale the barcode, causing the pixelation.
- Go to the "Graphic" or "Advanced" tab. Look for the "Dithering" option. Change this from "Half-tone" or "Error Diffusion" to "None" or "Threshold." This forces the printer to produce solid black bars without the grainy pixel effect.
- Print a test page. Hold a ruler up to the printed barcode; it should measure exactly as it does on the screen without any white borders bleeding into the black bars.
If That Didn't Work
- Update the Firmware via App: Check the "Device Settings" within the JADENS app for a firmware update. Older versions of the Bluetooth communication protocol sometimes struggle with high-density PDF rendering, causing "stutter" lines in barcodes.
- Convert PDF to Image: If you are printing a PDF directly, the printer may be struggling to render the vector lines. Use a "PDF to JPG" converter at 300 DPI, then print the JPG. This flattens the image and prevents the printer from attempting to scale the vector data.
- Check the Thermal Head: If the pixelation looks like "streaks" or missing vertical lines, it is a hardware issue. Use a cotton swab dipped in 70% Isopropyl Alcohol to clean the heating element (the thin black strip). Debris or adhesive buildup can block specific pixels, creating gaps in the barcode.
- Switch to Wired USB: If you are using a Windows PC, bypass the Bluetooth connection and use the USB cable. Bluetooth bandwidth can occasionally cause data packet loss during the transfer of large image files, leading to "glitched" or pixelated print segments.

- Avoid "Save as PDF" loops: Never print a screenshot of a label. Always use the original PDF file provided by the carrier (USPS/UPS/FedEx). Screenshots drastically reduce the DPI, making the barcode unreadable.
- Label Alignment: Ensure the green guides on the label tray are snug against the rolls. If the label shifts during printing, the printer may trigger an auto-correction that slightly distorts the image scale.
- Heat Saturation: If you are printing 50+ labels in one batch, the thermal head can overheat, leading to "faded" pixels. If you notice quality dropping mid-batch, lower the "Print Density" in the driver settings to 8 or 10.
- Paper Quality: Only use direct thermal labels. Using standard paper with a ribbon or non-thermal labels will result in zero ink transfer or smeared, unreadable barcodes.
