DIAGNOSIS The paper feed mechanism is encountering resistance. Primary suspects are worn pickup rollers, incorrect paper guide adjustment, or a foreign object in the paper path.
FIX Power off and unplug the printer. Remove the paper tray. Inspect the pickup rollers inside the printer at the back of the tray slot. Clean them with a lint-free cloth dampened with water. Let them dry completely. Reinstall the tray, ensuring the paper guides are snug against the stack.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The pickup rollers may be glazed and worn smooth. Brother sells a replacement pickup roller kit (part #R261012). Replacement is required for consistent feeding.
HEADS UP Do not use paper that is curled, damp, or outside the specified weight range (16-28 lb). Always fan the paper stack before loading to prevent sheets from sticking together.
