it’s running non-stop and never seems to shut off, is that going to burn out the compressor?

— asked by Sam

DIAGNOSIS Continuous running is usually caused by one of three things: a warm ambient room, a door seal leak, or the temperature being set too low for the conditions.

FIX Check the room temperature. If it's in a garage or space over 80°F (27°C), the compressor will run near-constantly to maintain a cold interior. Move it to a cooler location if possible.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK Raise the thermostat setting. Try 40°F (4°C) instead of the minimum 34°F. This gives the compressor a break. Also, make sure the vents on the back are completely unobstructed with at least 4 inches of clearance for heat dissipation.

HEADS UP These are compressor-driven fridges, not thermoelectric. They are designed to cycle on and off. If it truly never cycles off in a 70°F room with a proper seal, the thermostat might be faulty.
