Diagnosis
A solid red status light on a Lorex 4K Spotlight Deterrence Camera indicates that the device is stuck in a "boot-loop" or a power-failure state. This happens when the camera's internal logic board receives enough voltage to light the LED, but not enough current (amperage) to initialize the 4K image sensor, the spotlight LEDs, and the Wi-Fi radio simultaneously. Because these cameras have a high peak power draw during the boot sequence, any degradation in the power chain will cause the system to hang. This is rarely a "bricked" firmware issue and is almost always a physical power delivery problem. You can confirm this by checking if the red light flickers or dims when you try to trigger the spotlight manually via the app; if the light dims or the camera reboots, the power supply is failing to maintain the required 12V/1A or 12V/2A threshold. This is frequently caused by voltage drop over long extension cables or a failing AC/DC transformer.
How to Fix It
To resolve the power starvation and reset the boot sequence, follow these precise steps:
- Disconnect the power adapter from the 110V/220V wall outlet and unplug the DC barrel jack from the camera's pigtail connector.
- Inspect the weather-sealed connector. Open the plastic waterproof cap and check for any green or white corrosion on the pins. If corrosion is present, clean the contacts with 90% isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab.
- If you are using a third-party extension cable, remove it entirely. Plug the original Lorex power adapter directly into the camera to rule out voltage drop.
- Perform a hard hardware reset: Locate the reset button (usually found under the dome or near the SD card slot). While the camera is unplugged, hold the reset button down.
- Plug the power adapter back into the wall and the camera while continuing to hold the reset button for exactly 15 seconds.
- Release the button and wait 2-3 minutes. The red light should transition to a blinking green or blue light, indicating it is ready for pairing.
If That Didn't Work
- Replace the Power Adapter: The original Lorex transformers are prone to capacitor failure over time. Replace the adapter with a regulated 12V DC power supply rated for at least 2 Amps. Ensure the polarity is center-positive to avoid frying the mainboard.
- Check the PoE Injector: If you are using a PoE (Power over Ethernet) version of the 4K camera, the injector may be failing. Swap the PoE injector with a known working one or test the camera on a different PoE port on your NVR to see if the red light persists.
- SD Card Conflict: A corrupted microSD card can cause a boot failure. Remove the SD card entirely and attempt to reboot the camera. If it boots successfully, format the card to FAT32 on a PC before re-inserting it.
- Firmware Force-Update: If you have access to the Lorex NVR, go to the "Camera" menu and check for a firmware update. Even if the camera shows as "Offline," some NVRs can push a recovery image to the camera if it is connected via Ethernet.

- Avoid using thin-gauge extension cords for the power adapter; voltage drop over 20 feet can prevent the 4K sensor from initializing, leading back to the solid red light.
- Always use the provided waterproof cable gland. Moisture entering the DC jack is the leading cause of short circuits that mimic a "bricked" state.
- If you replace the power supply, ensure it matches the exact voltage (12V). Using a 19V or 24V adapter will permanently destroy the camera's internal voltage regulators.
- Keep the camera's firmware updated via the Lorex Home app to prevent software-related boot hangs.
