When a leaf moves or a shadow shifts across the frame, the camera perceives a significant change in a cluster of pixels and triggers a motion event. Because the 4K resolution captures such fine detail, even a small object moving close to the lens can occupy a large portion of the sensor's field of view, triggering an alert. Furthermore, if your camera is angled too low, it may be capturing "wind-sway" from foreground foliage or grass. This creates a constant loop of motion triggers because the camera cannot distinguish between a human walking and a branch waving in the wind. You can confirm this by reviewing your "Event" clips; if the trigger occurs in the same area of the frame every time, you have a zoning conflict. If the alerts are happening everywhere, your global sensitivity threshold is set too low, making the camera hyper-reactive to environmental noise.
How to Fix It
To eliminate false positives and refine your alerts, follow these precise steps within the Lorex Home app:
- Open the Lorex Home app and select the live view of your 4K Spotlight camera.
- Tap the Settings (gear icon) in the top right corner of the screen.
- Navigate to Detection and then select Motion Detection.
- Locate the Sensitivity slider. If it is currently at "High" or "Medium," move it to "Low." This increases the threshold of pixel change required to trigger an alert, effectively ignoring small movements like leaves or insects.
- Select Activity Zones. You will see a live grid of your camera's field of view. Instead of leaving the whole screen active, tap and drag to create specific rectangles over high-traffic areas (like your driveway or front door). Ensure you leave "dead zones" around trees, bushes, or swaying fences.
- Enable Smart Detection (Person/Vehicle Detection). This is the most critical step. By toggling this on, the camera's onboard AI will analyze the motion; it will ignore the "blob" of a blowing leaf and only send a notification if the shape matches a human or a car.
- Save your changes and test the system by walking into the frame yourself to ensure the "Low" sensitivity still triggers for humans.
If That Didn't Work
- Adjust the Physical Tilt: If you have foliage in the bottom 20% of your frame, no amount of software tuning will perfectly fix it. Use the mounting bracket to tilt the camera slightly upward. By removing the swaying grass or low-hanging branches from the field of view entirely, you eliminate the source of the trigger.
- Check for Infrared Reflection: At night, the IR LEDs can reflect off glossy leaves or white walls, creating "ghost motion" when the wind blows. Try disabling the IR night vision and relying solely on the Spotlight's white LEDs for illumination, which provides a more stable image for the AI to analyze.
- Update Firmware: Lorex frequently releases "AI Tuning" updates that improve the Person/Vehicle detection algorithms. Go to Settings > Device Maintenance > Update to ensure you are on the latest version, as older firmware is significantly more prone to false positives.
- Schedule Detection: If the wind is only an issue during specific times (e.g., stormy afternoons), use the Detection Schedule to disable motion alerts during those windows while keeping the recording active.

- Avoid "Over-Zoning": Do not make your activity zones too small. If a person enters the frame but doesn't step exactly into your tiny box, the camera may fail to alert you. Always overlap your zones by a few inches.
- Lens Maintenance: Dust or spider webs across the lens can trigger motion alerts at night when the IR lights hit them. Clean the lens with a microfiber cloth every 30 days.
- Power Stability: Ensure your camera is receiving steady power. Voltage drops can sometimes cause the sensor to "glitch," creating artificial motion triggers in the video feed.
