Diagnosis
The leaking at the base of your Blendtec Classic 575 is almost certainly caused by a failure of the jar's sealing system, specifically the rubber O-ring gasket located at the bottom of the pitcher. Over time, the constant vibration of the high-RPM motor combined with the chemical breakdown from acidic foods or harsh detergents causes the rubber to lose its elasticity, flatten, or develop microscopic tears. When the seal loses its compression, liquid bypasses the gasket and escapes through the gap between the plastic jar wall and the stainless steel blade assembly. You can confirm this by filling the jar with warm soapy water (without turning it on) and letting it sit for ten minutes. If you see droplets forming specifically around the perimeter of the blade assembly where it meets the jar, the seal is compromised. In rare cases, the leak is not the gasket itself, but a "stress crack" in the polycarbonate plastic of the jar base, often caused by dropping the jar or overheating it with boiling liquids, which creates a direct path for liquid to leak out regardless of the seal's condition.
How to Fix It
To resolve this, you must replace the worn gasket and ensure the blade assembly is seated with maximum tension. You will need a replacement Blendtec Jar Gasket (Part #B1001) and a large adjustable wrench or a specific Blendtec socket tool.
- Unplug the blender from the wall outlet to ensure the motor cannot accidentally engage.
- Invert the jar and locate the large hex nut that holds the blade assembly into the base of the pitcher.
- Using your wrench, turn the nut counter-clockwise. Apply steady pressure; if it is stuck due to food residue, soak the base in hot water for five minutes first.
- Carefully lift the blade assembly out of the jar. You will see a thick, black rubber O-ring seated in a circular groove.
- Use a plastic pick or a blunt knife to pry the old O-ring out of the groove. Be careful not to scratch the plastic surface of the jar, as any gouges will create new leak points.
- Thoroughly scrub the groove with a nylon brush and white vinegar to remove any mineral buildup or old food particles that could prevent a flush seal.
- Lubricate the new O-ring with a tiny drop of food-grade mineral oil. This prevents the rubber from pinching or twisting during installation.
- Press the new O-ring firmly into the groove, ensuring it sits completely flat and is not twisted.
- Reinsert the blade assembly and tighten the hex nut firmly. Do not over-torque, but ensure it is snug enough to compress the gasket against the jar wall.
If That Didn't Work
- Inspect for Hairline Fractures: Dry the jar completely and apply a thin layer of cornstarch or baby powder to the bottom exterior. Fill the jar with water; the powder will "clump" or disappear exactly where the water is escaping. If the leak is coming through the plastic wall rather than the seal, the jar is structurally compromised and must be replaced.
- Check the Blade Shaft Alignment: If the blade assembly is slightly bent or the shaft is worn, it can create an uneven gap that the gasket cannot fill. Spin the blade by hand; if it wobbles significantly or feels "gritty," the internal bearings of the blade assembly have failed, and you need a complete blade replacement kit.
- Verify Jar Seating: Ensure the jar is sitting perfectly flat on the motor base. If the base is warped or there is debris on the motor platform, the jar may tilt slightly, putting uneven pressure on the seal during high-speed blending, which can force liquid out under centrifugal pressure.

- Avoid using abrasive scouring pads on the bottom of the jar, as scratches in the polycarbonate can lead to stress fractures over time.
- Never use bleach or caustic oven cleaners to sanitize your jars; these chemicals accelerate the degradation of the rubber O-rings.
- If you frequently blend hot soups, allow the jar to cool slightly before washing it in cold water to prevent "thermal shock" cracks in the base.
- Inspect your gaskets every six months; if the rubber feels hard or "plastic-like" instead of supple, replace it immediately to avoid liquid entering the motor base, which can fry the electronics.
