Diagnosis
Faint or faded printing on the Brother HL-L2350DW, especially after replacing the toner, typically stems from one of three issues: a software-level "Toner Save" setting, a failure to remove the protective shipping materials from the new cartridge, or a worn-out drum unit (DR-2400). Because the toner is new, the problem is likely not the powder itself, but how it is being transferred to the paper.
How to Fix It
Follow these steps to resolve the most common causes:
- Check the Protective Tape: Remove the toner cartridge and ensure the orange plastic protective cover and the long sealing tape have been completely pulled out. If the tape remains, the toner cannot flow onto the roller.
- Disable Toner Save Mode: This setting intentionally lightens prints to save money.
- Windows: Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers. Right-click your HL-L2350DW, select Printing Preferences, go to the Advanced tab, and uncheck "Toner Save."
- Mac: In the Print dialog box, select "Print Settings" from the dropdown menu and ensure "Toner Save" is set to Off.
- Clean the Corona Wire: Open the front cover and lift the drum unit assembly. Slide the green tab on top of the drum unit from left to right several times to clean the corona wire of dust and toner buildup.
If That Didn't Work
The issue is likely the Drum Unit (DR-2400). While toner is the "ink," the drum is the component that electrically charges the paper to attract that ink. If the drum is scratched or has reached its 12,000-page limit, prints will appear faint regardless of how much toner is in the cartridge. Replace the drum unit and reset the drum counter via the printer's menu settings to restore full density.
Heads Up
Never touch the shiny roller on the bottom of the drum unit with your fingers; skin oils can cause permanent spotting or streaks on your printed pages.
