Probably not broken. First, let's check the basics of your setup.
First, make sure you're using the right kind of network. This printer only supports 10Base-T or 100Base-TX Ethernet networks. If you're plugging it into a Gigabit (1000Base-T) port, it might not negotiate a connection properly.
Next, check the cable. Use a known-good Ethernet cable and plug it directly from the printer to your router or switch. The network light on the printer should turn on if it detects a link.
If that didn't work:
- The driver might be configured for USB only. Go to your computer's printer settings, remove the USB-based printer queue, and re-add the printer using the "TCP/IP" or network address option.
- Download the full driver package from http://support.brother.com/. The network installation options are in there.
Heads up: The printer's network interface is built-in, so if the light never comes on with a good cable and a working 10/100 network port, there might be a hardware issue.
