This is often caused by a "phantom jam," where a microscopic scrap of paper (sometimes as small as a confetti flake) has wedged itself under the flag, or a buildup of electrostatic toner dust has created enough friction to prevent the lever from pivoting. Another common culprit on this specific model is the registration sensor located just after the paper pickup roller. If the printer experienced a previous jam that was cleared forcefully, the actuator arm may have been bent slightly out of alignment or popped out of its socket. To confirm this is a sensor issue rather than a physical blockage, check if the error persists immediately after a hard power cycle (unplugging for 30 seconds); if the error returns the moment the machine finishes its initialization sequence without attempting to pull a sheet, a sensor flag is likely stuck in the "active" position.
How to Fix It
