my canon mg3620 just shows a solid orange light and won't print or copy anything, what's wrong?

— asked by Jordan

DIAGNOSIS The orange Alarm light is solid. This is a definite error state. It means the printhead is jammed, the ink absorber is nearly full, or a paper jam is not fully cleared.

FIX Turn the printer off. Open the scanner unit and paper support. Remove all paper from the input tray. Look inside for any torn paper scraps. Clear them with your fingers. Close the unit. Unplug the power cord from the wall for 60 seconds. Plug it back in and turn on.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The ink absorber counter might be full. This requires a reset. With the printer on, press and hold the Stop button for 5 seconds until the Alarm light flashes twice. Release. The printer will reset the counter.

HEADS UP If the Alarm light returns after the reset, the physical ink absorber pad inside is saturated. This requires professional service. Continued use can cause ink leakage inside the machine.
