DIAGNOSIS The 'HOT' indicator is a safety lockout. The internal thermostat thinks the water in the reservoir is already above 180°F. This is usually a stuck or failed thermal fuse on the heating element assembly.
FIX Unplug the unit. Let it cool for at least 30 minutes. Remove the water reservoir and pour out all water. Look for any steam or residual heat inside the base. Reinstall the empty reservoir, plug it in, and press the ON/OFF button. If 'HOT' clears, refill with cool tap water and try a brew cycle.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The thermal fuse (often a small white or tan disc clipped to the heating element) has likely failed. This requires disassembly to access the heating element assembly for testing and replacement. The part is not user-serviceable without technical skill.
HEADS UP Do not attempt to brew while the 'HOT' light is on. Forcing it can damage the aluminum heating plate or thermal cut-offs permanently. If the fuse has failed, the unit will not operate until it is replaced.
