Diagnosis
The "Clean Me" alert on the De'Longhi Dinamica Plus ECAM37095TI is frequently misunderstood by users who confuse it with the descaling notification. While descaling removes calcium buildup from the internal boiler and pipes using a chemical agent, the "Clean Me" alert refers specifically to the Infuser (the brew unit) and the internal circuitry. This is a maintenance trigger based on a cycle counter; once the machine has brewed a specific number of cups, it demands a rinse cycle to clear out residual coffee oils and fine grounds that accumulate in the brewing chamber. If you have already run a descaling cycle, the machine remains in this state because the descaling process does not reset the brew unit's maintenance counter. The machine is essentially telling you that the mechanical parts of the brewing group are contaminated or require a lubrication-focused rinse. You can confirm this by noticing that the machine will refuse to engage the pump for a coffee brew, but may still allow you to dispense hot water or steam, as the block is specific to the coffee-making mechanism.
How to Fix It
To clear the "Clean Me" alert and reset the internal counter, you must perform the dedicated brew unit rinse. Follow these exact steps:
- Ensure the drip tray is empty and properly seated, and place a large container (at least 500ml) under both the coffee spouts and the milk frother outlet to catch the waste water.
- Turn the machine on and wait for the main touch screen to load.
- Navigate to the "Settings" menu on the display. Locate the "Maintenance" section.
- Select the "Rinse" or "Clean" option. If the touch screen is unresponsive due to the error, use the hard-reset sequence: Press and hold the 'CAPPUCCINO' and 'CAPPUCCINO+' buttons simultaneously for exactly 5 seconds. The display will change to show the word 'CLEAN'.
- Press the 'START' button to initiate the process. The machine will engage the pump and cycle water through the infuser without coffee.
- Wait for the cycle to complete fully. Do not turn off the machine or open the side door during this process, as this will abort the cycle and the "Clean Me" message will persist.
- Once the display returns to the home screen, the alert is cleared.
If That Didn't Work
- Manual Infuser Deep Clean: Open the side door and remove the infuser (the brew unit) by pressing the two red release buttons. Rinse the unit thoroughly under lukewarm running water without using soap. If coffee grounds are packed tightly into the piston, the sensor may still trigger a cleaning alert. Dry it completely before reinserting.
- Check the Infuser Lubrication: If the brew unit is dry, it can create friction that the machine interprets as a blockage, triggering a cleaning error. Apply a small amount of De'Longhi-approved food-grade silicone grease to the O-rings and the sliding rails of the infuser.
- Clear the Waste Bin Sensor: Sometimes a "Clean Me" alert is triggered by a "Grounds Container Full" error that has been ignored. Empty the dregs container and ensure the float (the small plastic piece that rises with the grounds) is moving freely and not stuck in the 'up' position.
- Hard Power Reset: Turn the machine off using the main power switch on the back, unplug it from the wall for 10 minutes, and then plug it back in. This forces the logic board to re-poll the sensors and can occasionally clear a "ghost" cleaning alert.
Heads Up
- Never use dish soap or detergents when rinsing the infuser; this strips the essential lubricants from the seals and will lead to leaks or mechanical failure.
- Perform a manual rinse of the brew unit every two weeks to prevent the "Clean Me" alert from appearing during a busy morning.
- Ensure you only use the official De'Longhi EcoDecalk solution for descaling; using vinegar or generic citric acid can damage the internal seals of the ECAM37095TI.
- Always check that the water tank is filled to the MAX line before starting a cleaning cycle, as running the pump dry can cause air locks in the system.
