Yeah, that'll do it. You should never leave the empty carafe on the warming plate when the coffee maker is on. Otherwise the carafe is liable to crack.
The carafe is also only for use with this specific coffee maker. It shouldn't be used on a stovetop or with other products. If it's already cracked, chipped, or has a loose handle, you should not use it.
