Check the outlet and circuit first. It must be on a separate outlet and circuit from other appliances to avoid overloading.
Ensure the unit is completely dry and unplugged while you fill it with water and coffee grounds. Only plug the cord into the outlet and press the power switch after the carafe is on the warming plate.
