my generac gp3000i inverter generator won't start at all, just makes a clicking sound when i pull the cord

DIAGNOSIS The starter motor solenoid is clicking but not engaging. This is almost always a dead or weak 12V battery.

FIX Check and recharge or replace the battery.
1. Locate the battery on the lower frame rail.
2. Use a multimeter to check voltage. Anything below 12.4V is too low.
3. Recharge with a standard 12V battery charger. If it won't hold a charge, replace it (generic 12V 18Ah battery).
4. After connecting, ensure the red battery connector is fully seated.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK If the battery is fine, the clicking could point to a loose main ground wire. Check the black ground wire connection where it attaches to the frame near the battery.

HEADS UP The onboard charger only maintains during storage; it won't recharge a fully dead battery. If you store it for months, use a maintainer.
