The printer's Wi-Fi setup mode timed out. It's not in the correct state for the HP Smart app to find it.
Restart the setup mode.
- Swipe down on the display to open the control panel Dashboard.
- Touch the gear icon, then Network Setup, then Restore Network Settings. Touch Yes when prompted.
- Wait one full minute. Close and reopen the HP Smart app on your computer or phone, then try the connection again.
If that didn't work:
- Your computer or phone is too far away. Move it closer to the printer.
- If you're using a computer with a VPN, disconnect from the VPN before installing HP Smart. Reconnect after setup is complete.
- If your computer is connected by an Ethernet cable, you still need to turn on the computer's Wi-Fi radio during printer setup. Don't unplug the Ethernet cable.
Heads up: This printer requires an initial setup with HP Smart and an internet connection. You can't use the USB port for the first-time setup if it has a label covering it.
