DIAGNOSIS New-unit smell or lingering flavors from the water reservoir and lines. The plastic and food-grade tubing can off-gas or absorb tastes, especially if you didn't do an initial cleaning run.
FIX Do a full cleaning cycle with vinegar (as described in ), but then run several batches of ice using only fresh water and throw the ice away. Don't consume the first 3-4 batches after cleaning. Always store ice in the provided basket, not left in the internal bin for days, as it can pick up odors.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK Check if the plastic scoop or basket is the source of the odor. Wash them thoroughly with mild soap and warm water. Also, ensure you're using fresh, cold water each time you fill the reservoir—don't let water sit in the tank for more than a day.
HEADS UP Never use harsh chemicals or bleach to clean the interior. The taste will seep into the plastic and linger for dozens of cycles. Stick to vinegar or citric acid-based descalers.
