DIAGNOSIS The ink level monitoring is based on an estimated page count, not a physical measurement. A firmware glitch or interrupted print job can cause the counter to reset or jump erratically.
FIX Reset the ink level monitoring software on your computer.
- On your PC, open the Epson Printer Utility (or Status Monitor).
- Find the ink level display. Look for a 'Refresh' or 'Reset' button. If available, click it.
- If not, uninstall the printer software completely, then reinstall the latest version from Epson's site. This installs fresh monitoring software.
- The printer itself will only warn when ink is genuinely low based on its internal counter. Ignore the on-screen gauge and print until print quality degrades or you get a genuine low-ink warning from the printer's panel.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK You may be using third-party or refilled cartridges. Their chips don't communicate accurately with Epson's system, causing wild level fluctuations. The only fix is to use genuine Epson cartridges.
HEADS UP The printer will often claim a cartridge is "empty" while it still has 10-20% ink left, to encourage replacement. You can usually keep printing for a while after the first warning.
