DIAGNOSIS The scanner driver is corrupted, or the connection (USB/Wi-Fi) between the computer and printer is unstable for the scan data stream.
FIX Reinstall the scanner driver component.
- Uninstall the current Epson software via Control Panel > Programs and Features.
- Download and run the latest "Epson Scan 2" or full software package for the XP-4205 from the Epson website. Do not use the Windows-built in drivers.
- During installation, if using Wi-Fi, ensure your computer is on the exact same network as the printer. For USB, connect the cable directly to a motherboard port, not a hub.
- After install, restart your computer.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The flatbed scanner cable (connecting the scan head to the mainboard) can become loose or damaged. This is a physical repair. Gently reseating the cable connectors inside the printer sometimes fixes it.
HEADS UP Scanning over Wi-Fi is much slower and more prone to timeouts than USB. For large or high-res scans, always use a direct USB connection for reliability.
