DIAGNOSIS The printer's firmware has crashed or locked up. It's powered but not booted.

FIX Perform a hard reset to clear its memory and force a reboot.

  • Turn the printer OFF using the power switch on the back/side.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. Also unplug the USB cable if connected.
  • Wait 2 full minutes. This drains any residual power and clears volatile memory.
  • Plug only the power cord back in. Turn the printer ON. Listen for the carriage motor initializing—you should hear movement.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK A corrupted firmware update might be the cause. Reinstall the firmware: download the latest firmware updater from the Epson support site for the XP-4205, connect via USB, and run the updater.

HEADS UP Never interrupt a firmware update. Ensure your computer and printer are on a stable power source (no battery saver modes) during the process.
