my liftmaster 8587w wall control panel just flashes and the opener won't respond at all.

— asked by Sam

Quick answer: Power or signal issue. The flashing wall panel indicates a loss of signal from the main opener unit or a power fault in the control circuit.

Diagnosis

Power or signal issue. The flashing wall panel indicates a loss of signal from the main opener unit or a power fault in the control circuit.

How to Fix It

First, check the opener unit's LED status light. It should be solid green. If it is off or flashing, check the unit's power cord at the outlet. Reset by unplugging the opener for 30 seconds, then replug. If the opener light is solid but wall panel flashes, disconnect the white button connector from the back of the wall panel for 10 seconds, then reconnect.

If That Didn't Work

Replace the 3V CR2032 battery in the wall control panel. A low battery can cause this symptom.

Heads Up

The wall panel uses a 3-wire, 22-gauge security cable. Pinched or damaged wires between the panel and opener will cause this. Inspect the wire run.
