This typically happens after a power surge, a factory reset, or if the device was physically moved too far from the bridge's wireless range. When the switch is in this state, it is broadcasting a signal to be discovered by the app, but it cannot execute commands from the bridge, which often results in the lights remaining off or unresponsive to app control.
To confirm this is a connectivity issue and not a hardware failure, check if the lights still operate using the physical toggle on the switch. If the lights turn on via the physical button but the green light continues to flash, the hardware is functional, but the "handshake" between the switch and the bridge has been severed. If the physical buttons also fail to trigger the lights, you likely have a tripped breaker or a loose neutral/load wire in the wall box.
How to Fix It
To resolve the flashing green light and restore functionality, you must re-establish the link between the switch and your Smart Bridge. Follow these exact steps:
- Open the Lutron App on your smartphone and ensure your phone is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the Smart Bridge.
- Navigate to the Settings menu (gear icon) and select Add Device.
- Choose Switch, Dimmer, or Plug from the list of available device types.
- On the physical Caseta switch, press and hold the top "On" button for approximately 10 seconds. The green LED will begin to flash rapidly. This forces the device into a discoverable state.
- The app will now scan for the device. Once the "Found" notification appears, tap Add.
- Assign the switch to a specific room and give it a name (e.g., "Living Room Main").
- Test the connection by toggling the light via the app. The green LED should stop flashing and eventually turn off, indicating a successful pairing.
If That Didn't Work
- Perform a Hard Factory Reset: If the app cannot find the switch, you may need to clear the internal memory. Press and hold the "On" and "Off" buttons simultaneously for exactly 10 seconds. The LED will flash rapidly to confirm the reset. Wait 30 seconds for the device to reboot, then attempt the pairing process in the app again.
- Check Bridge Proximity: If the switch is located in a far wing of the house or behind heavy masonry, the Clear Connect RF signal may be blocked. - Inspect for Interference: Ensure the bridge is not sitting directly on top of your Wi-Fi router. The electromagnetic interference from the router can drown out the low-energy RF signal the switch uses to pair, causing the "discovery" phase to fail repeatedly.
