my masterbuilt digital smoker keeps turning off by itself halfway through a smoke, the display just goes blank

— asked by Morgan

DIAGNOSIS This is a classic power supply or outlet issue. The controller is losing AC power. The most common cause is the unit drawing too much current for the circuit, tripping a GFCI outlet.

FIX 1. Unplug the smoker. 2. Locate the outlet. If it's a GFCI type (has Test/Reset buttons), press Reset. 3. Plug the smoker directly into a standard, non-GFCI household outlet on a dedicated 15-amp circuit. Do not use an extension cord.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The power cord connector at the back of the unit may have a loose or corroded connection. Unplug, then firmly reseat the cord connector into the smoker's receptacle. Ensure the locking tab clicks into place.

HEADS UP Using a full water pan and running at max temperature (275°F) simultaneously creates the highest power draw. This combination is most likely to trip a marginal circuit.
