the control panel buttons on my masterbuilt electric smoker aren't responding, i press them and nothing happens

DIAGNOSIS The membrane switch behind the control panel is failing. This is caused by moisture ingress or grease vapor compromising the contacts. The problem often starts with the Up/Down or Power buttons.

FIX 1. Unplug the smoker and let it cool completely. 2. Using a soft cloth slightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol, firmly wipe and press each button on the panel several times. This can clean internal contacts. 3. Let it dry for 30 minutes, then plug in and test.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The control board itself may have failed due to moisture. The entire control panel assembly (part number 990706003) must be replaced. This requires disconnecting the wiring harness at the back of the unit. The process involves removing four screws.

HEADS UP Never spray water or cleaner directly onto the control panel. Condensation and steam from opening the door can rise into the panel. Always open the door slowly to let steam dissipate to the side.
