Diagnosis
Water leaking from the bottom of your Mr. Coffee 12-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker typically indicates one of three issues: an overfilled water reservoir, a failed internal seal (often the gasket where the reservoir meets the heating element), or a cracked internal water tube. The leak appears at the bottom because water from any of these failures drains down through the machine's chassis.
How to Fix It
- Unplug the machine and empty all water from the reservoir and carafe. Thoroughly dry the exterior and the counter.
- Check the Fill Level: Refill the reservoir using the carafe's measurement lines, ensuring you do not exceed the "12" mark. Overfilling forces water into overflow channels that exit from the bottom.
- Inspect for Cracks: With the reservoir empty and the machine unplugged, use a flashlight to visually inspect the plastic water reservoir inside the main unit for any hairline cracks, especially around the bottom and sides.
- Check the Reservoir Seal: Look at the black rubber or silicone gasket at the bottom of the reservoir opening. Ensure it is clean, free of coffee grounds or mineral scale, and seated properly. A deformed or hard/brittle seal will cause leaks.
If That Didn't Work
Due to the appliance's construction, there is no consumer-serviceable way to safely access and repair a cracked internal tube or a deeply internal seal. Attempting to open the sealed housing risks electric shock and will likely prevent proper reassembly. If the leak continues with correct filling and a good external seal, the unit needs replacement.

Always descale your machine regularly with vinegar or a commercial descaler, as mineral buildup can degrade seals and contribute to leaks. Never immerse the main unit in water or operate it while wet.
