Diagnosis
A leak from the bottom of your Mr. Coffee Mini Brew Switch typically indicates an internal failure, not just a surface issue. The most common cause is a cracked or degraded water reservoir, which is the plastic tank you fill. Over time, heat cycles can weaken the plastic, leading to hairline fractures. Alternatively, a failed internal seal or gasket around the heating element or water tube can allow water to bypass the brewing path and drip out the base.
How to Fix It
- Unplug the machine and let it cool completely. Empty the water reservoir and carafe.
- Dry the exterior and place the unit on a dry, level surface. Inspect the entire water reservoir for any visible cracks, especially along seams and the bottom.
- Remove the filter basket and examine the small silicone gasket or seal where the basket sits. If it's misaligned, hardened, or cracked, it can cause leaks during brewing that run down into the base.
- Check the glass carafe for cracks or chips, particularly around the lid opening and handle. A damaged carafe can leak during serving, making it seem like the machine itself is leaking.
- If you find a cracked reservoir or a damaged internal seal, the unit is likely not repairable and should be replaced for safety.
If That Didn't Work
If no visible damage is found, the leak may be from the internal heating element assembly or a connection tube. This requires disassembly, which is not recommended for this appliance due to electrical hazards and difficulty obtaining parts. At this point, the safest and most practical solution is to discontinue use and replace the coffee maker.
