my new ecobee thermostat is reading 3 degrees colder than my other thermometer, how do i fix this?

— asked by Jamie

The temperature sensor has a variance of +/- 1°F. A 3-degree discrepancy means you need to apply a permanent correction.

To correct the sensor reading:

  1. Go to MAIN MENU > SETTINGS > INSTALLATION SETTINGS > THRESHOLDS > TEMPERATURE CORRECTION.
  2. Adjust the offset by up to +/- 10°F in either direction to match your trusted thermometer.

Important validation steps before you adjust:

  • Compare only the thermostat sensor reading, not the average if you have SmartSensors paired.
  • Check sensor pairing at MAIN MENU > SETTINGS > SENSORS.
  • Seal the hole behind the thermostat with plumber's putty. Air from the wall cavity can influence the sensor.
