The Midea WHS-65LB1 is a compact, single-zone unit that relies on a small compressor and a manual thermostat dial. When the unit runs constantly without reaching the target temperature, it is usually due to "thermal saturation" or inadequate heat dissipation. Because the evaporator coils are integrated into the walls of the interior liner, any obstruction to airflow around the exterior chassis prevents the refrigerant from releasing heat into the room, forcing the compressor to run in a continuous loop without ever triggering the thermostat's shut-off switch. Another common cause is the "over-cooling trap." If the thermostat is turned to the maximum setting (7) immediately after plugging it in, the evaporator coils can actually develop a layer of frost. This frost acts as an insulator, preventing the cold air from reaching the sensor, which tricks the fridge into thinking it is still warm. This creates a cycle where the compressor never stops, but the interior air remains lukewarm. You can confirm this by feeling the side walls; if they are warm to the touch while the inside is barely cool, the heat exchange process is failing.
How to Fix It
To stabilize the cooling cycle and reset the thermal equilibrium of the WHS-65LB1, follow these exact steps:
- Unplug the unit from the wall outlet for 30 minutes. This allows any localized ice buildup on the internal evaporator plates to melt and resets the compressor's thermal overload protector.
- Relocate the unit to ensure there is a minimum of 4 inches (10cm) of open space on the left, right, and rear sides. If the fridge is pushed flush against a wall or tucked inside a tight cabinet, the compressor will overheat and lose efficiency.
- Plug the unit back in and immediately set the thermostat dial to the "Medium" or "4" position. Do not set it to 7; this prevents the coils from frosting over during the initial pull-down phase.

Clean the gasket with warm soapy water to remove any sticky residue that may be preventing a tight seal.
- Verify Ambient Temperature: This model is designed for temperate indoor environments. If the fridge is in a garage or dorm room where the temperature exceeds 90°F (32°C), the heat exchange efficiency drops significantly. Move the unit to a cooler area or use a space heater/AC to bring the room temperature down to see if the compressor eventually cycles off.
- Inspect the Condenser Coils: Locate the back of the unit. If there is a buildup of dust, pet hair, or lint on the rear grill/coils, the unit cannot shed heat. Use a vacuum with a brush attachment or a can of compressed air to clear all debris from the rear of the chassis.
- Test for "Cold Spot" Airflow: Move your items to the lower shelves. Since cold air sinks, the top of a 1.6 cu ft fridge is always the warmest. If the bottom is cold but the top is warm, the unit is working correctly, and you simply need to reorganize your storage.
