"PF" stands for Power Failure. This is a status code indicating the microwave lost its main AC power supply abruptly, such as from a brief power flicker, a tripped circuit breaker, or being unplugged. The control board's memory was reset, so it's not a component failure but a normal indicator that the unit needs to be reset.
How to Fix It
- Unplug the microwave from the wall outlet. Do not just turn it off at a power strip.
- Wait at least one full minute to ensure any residual power in the circuitry fully drains.
- While unplugged, you can press and hold the Stop/Clear button for a few seconds to help discharge any remaining power.
- Firmly plug the microwave cord back into the wall outlet.
- The "PF" code should disappear, replaced by a default display or a flashing clock.
- Reset the clock and any programmed settings.
If That Didn't Work
If "PF" persists or returns immediately, the issue is with the power supply. First, ensure the outlet is working by plugging in another appliance like a lamp. Next, check your home's circuit breaker panel for the kitchen circuit and reset any tripped breakers. For a permanently installed unit, verify the plug is fully seated behind the microwave cabinet. If the problem is frequent, the wall outlet may have a loose wiring connection requiring an electrician's inspection.
