When the machine fails to stop, it is because the "Full" signal is never sent to the control board. This happens when the sensor arm is physically obstructed, frozen in the "down" position, or when a layer of frost has insulated the sensor, preventing it from registering the presence of the ice pile. In most cases, the root cause is "ice bridging." This occurs when water splashes onto the sensor arm or the surrounding housing during the harvest cycle and freezes, locking the arm in place. Because the arm cannot pivot upward as the ice fills the basket, the logic board assumes the basket is empty and continues the cooling and ejection cycle indefinitely. You can confirm this by observing the basket; if the ice is piled high but the sensor arm is still pointing downward or is encased in a block of ice, the mechanical trigger is failing.
How to Fix It
To resolve the overflow issue and reset the sensor mechanism, follow these precise steps:
- Power down the unit by pressing the "Stop/Reset" button and unplugging the power cord from the wall outlet to prevent accidental startup during maintenance.
- Remove the ice basket entirely and dump all accumulated ice into a sink.
- Locate the sensor arm—this is the small plastic lever located on the side or rear interior wall of the ice chamber.
- Using a soft cloth dampened with warm water, gently wipe the pivot point of the sensor arm. If you see any white, opaque frost or ice shards clinging to the arm, carefully melt them with the warm cloth. - Manually lift the arm upward to the "Full" position and release it. It should snap back down smoothly without resistance. If it feels "gritty," continue cleaning the pivot point with warm water.
- Wipe the interior walls of the ice chamber to remove any excess moisture that may have caused the initial freeze-up.
- Plug the unit back in and restart the machine. Ensure the ice basket is seated perfectly flush against the base; if the basket is tilted, it can prevent the ice from pushing the arm up correctly.

In this case, the unit requires professional repair or replacement as the sensor is integrated into the main PCB.

- Ambient Temperature Matters: If the machine is placed in a very hot environment (like next to a stove), the ice may melt slightly and refreeze around the sensor, causing it to stick. Ensure at least 6 inches of ventilation space around the sides of the unit.
