Diagnosis
The flashing colors you see immediately after powering on your Winix 5510 are not error codes; they are part of the unit's standard "Self-Test" or initialization sequence. The device cycles through the blue, amber, and red LEDs to verify that the Air Quality Indicator is functioning correctly before the Smart Sensor takes over real-time monitoring.
How to Fix It
You do not need to take any corrective action. Simply allow the unit to complete its startup process:
- Initial Cycle: For the first 30 seconds, the lights will cycle through various colors.
- Calibration Phase: After the initial cycle, the Smart Sensor requires approximately 4 minutes to sample the ambient air and calibrate its readings.
- Steady State: Once calibration is complete, the light will settle on a single color (Blue for Good, Amber for Moderate, Red for Poor) based on the actual air quality in the room.
If That Didn't Work
If the lights continue to flash indefinitely or the unit fails to enter its normal operating mode, try the following:
- Hard Reset: Unplug the unit from the wall outlet for 60 seconds and plug it back in to reset the control board.
- Filter Verification: Open the filter door and ensure all filters (Pre-filter, HEPA, and AOC Carbon) are seated firmly. If a filter is missing or improperly installed, the unit may trigger a safety fault.
- Sensor Cleaning: Use a vacuum or a soft brush to gently clean the dust sensor port on the side of the unit; a blocked sensor can cause erratic light readings.
Heads Up
Note that if you have the unit set to "Sleep Mode," the Air Quality Indicator will be disabled entirely to prevent light pollution in your bedroom. Additionally, if you are using "Auto Mode," the fan speed will automatically adjust based on the color the sensor settles on.
