Question 1

the magic remote pointer is super jumpy and inaccurate, can't select anything right

Accepted Answer

DIAGNOSIS The "jumpy" or erratic behavior of the Magic Remote pointer on the LG 43UR7300PSA is typically caused by a failure in the internal gyroscope and accelerometer synchronization. The pointer doesn't actually "see" the screen; it calculates movement based on the physical tilt and rotation of the remote in your hand. When the pointer drifts or jumps, it means the sensor's zero-point has shifted, or there is electromagnetic interference (EMI) disrupting the signal between the remote's Bluetooth chip and the TV's receiver. In many living room setups, this is exacerbated by high-frequency interference from nearby Wi-Fi routers or soundbars placed directly in front of the TV's IR receiver. Additionally, if the remote has been dropped or bumped, the gyroscope can enter a state of "drift," where the cursor moves even when the remote is held still. You can confirm this by observing if the cursor continues to slide toward the edge of the screen while the remote is resting flat on a table. FIX To recalibrate the pointer and clear the communication glitch, follow this precise sequence to reset the remote's hardware connection and software alignment: Remove the batteries from the Magic Remote to completely discharge the internal capacitors. Wait at least 60 seconds. While the batteries are out, press and hold every button on the remote for two seconds each to ensure no stuck keys are sending phantom signals. Reinsert fresh alkaline batteries (avoid rechargeable NiMH batteries if possible, as the lower voltage can cause sensor instability). Turn on the TV and navigate to the Home screen. Press and hold the Back button and the Home button simultaneously for about 5 seconds. The power light on the remote will flash, indicating the pairing has been reset. Wait for the on-screen message "Magic Remote registration is complete" to appear. Immediately perform a "Calibration Shake": Hold the remote firmly and shake it gently left-to-right and up-and-down for 3 seconds to help the gyroscope find its center. IF THAT DIDN'T WORK Perform a Hard Power Cycle: Unplug the LG 43UR7300PSA from the wall outlet. While unplugged, hold the physical power button on the underside of the TV frame for 30 seconds to drain the motherboard capacitors. Plug it back in and attempt the pairing process again. This clears the TV's Bluetooth cache which often stores corrupt pairing data. Update the WebOS Firmware: Go to Settings > All Settings > General > About This TV > Check for Updates. LG frequently releases "Remote Stability" patches within their firmware updates that refine how the TV interprets the gyro-data from the Magic Remote. Clear Signal Obstructions: Ensure there are no metallic objects or wireless devices (like a Mesh Wi-Fi node or a smart home hub) within 3 feet of the TV's bottom bezel. These create EMI fields that interfere with the 2.4GHz Bluetooth signal used by the pointer. Check for Button Sticking: Inspect the OK button and the Directional Ring. If any button is slightly depressed or sticky due to debris, the remote may prioritize that input over the pointer movement, causing the cursor to "jump" or freeze. Use a can of compressed air to clear the gaps around the buttons. HEADS UP Avoid using third-party "universal" replacement remotes if you want pointer functionality; only the genuine LG Magic Remote (model MR23 or compatible) supports the gyroscope pointer. Keep the remote away from strong magnets, such as those found in high-end speaker magnets or magnetic phone mounts, as these can permanently misalign the internal gyro sensor. If you notice the pointer drifting specifically when the TV is in "Eco Mode," try disabling "Auto Power Off" in the settings, as aggressive power saving can sometimes throttle the Bluetooth receiver's polling rate. Regularly clean the IR window at the top of the remote with a microfiber cloth to ensure the basic navigation commands don't lag, which often feels like pointer lag.

Question 2

the power light just blinks red 3 times and the tv won't turn on at all

Accepted Answer

DIAGNOSIS The three-blink red sequence on the LG 43UR7300PSA is a specific hardware fault indicator signaling a failure in the Power Management circuit. This occurs when the main logic board attempts to initiate the "Power-On" sequence, but the Power Supply Unit (PSU) fails to provide the required stable DC voltage (typically the 12V or 24V rail) to the processor. Because the system detects a voltage drop or a short circuit, it triggers a protective shutdown to prevent the motherboard from frying, resulting in the rhythmic three-blink error code. This is frequently caused by "leaky" or bulging electrolytic capacitors on the PSU board that can no longer hold a charge, or a failure in the standby voltage circuit. In some cases, it is a "phantom" error caused by residual static charge buildup in the capacitors, which prevents the handshake between the main board and the power board. You can confirm this is a power-rail issue if the TV remains unresponsive to the physical power button on the underside of the bezel, not just the remote control. FIX To resolve a soft-lock or capacitor discharge issue, follow this precise hard-reset sequence: Disconnect the power cable from the back of the LG 43UR7300PSA and unplug it from the wall outlet entirely. Locate the physical power button located on the bottom center/underside of the TV frame. Press and hold this button down for a full 60 seconds. This drains the residual electricity from the capacitors on the main board. Bypass any surge protectors, extension cords, or UPS units. Plug the TV power cord directly into a known-working 120V/240V wall outlet to ensure the PSU is receiving full, unfiltered amperage. Wait 10 minutes before plugging the TV back in. This allows the internal components to thermally stabilize. Power the unit on. If the TV boots, immediately go to Settings > General > Device Self Diagnosis to check for system errors. IF THAT DIDN'T WORK Test for Backlight Failure: Shine a high-intensity flashlight directly against the screen while the TV is "on" (blinking). If you can see a faint image of the LG logo or a menu, the PSU is working, but the LED backlight driver has failed. This requires replacing the LED strips or the backlight inverter circuit. Reseat Internal Ribbon Cables: If you are comfortable opening the chassis, remove the back cover and locate the wide ribbon cables connecting the PSU to the Main Board. Unplug and re-insert these cables to clear any oxidation or loose connections that may be causing a voltage drop. Replace the Power Supply Unit (PSU): If the blinks persist, the PSU board (Part No. typically found on the board label) has failed. You will need to replace the entire board. Ensure the replacement board matches the exact revision number of your 43UR7300PSA model to avoid voltage mismatches. Main Board Replacement: If a new PSU does not stop the 3-blink code, the fault lies in the Main Logic Board's power management IC. This is a more expensive repair and involves replacing the central processing board. HEADS UP Voltage Warning: Never touch the large primary capacitors on the PSU board even when unplugged; they can hold a lethal charge of 400V+ for several minutes. Power Strip Hazards: High-resolution 4K TVs like the UR7300 series are sensitive to voltage sags. Using a low-quality power strip can trigger the 3-blink protection mode. Ventilation: Ensure there is at least 2 inches of clearance around the rear vents. Overheating the PSU is the primary cause of capacitor failure in the 43-inch series. Firmware Updates: Once the TV is back online, update to the latest webOS version immediately, as LG often releases stability patches for power-sequencing bugs.

Question 3

i get no sound from external devices connected to the hdmi ports, tv speakers work

Accepted Answer

DIAGNOSIS The audio signal from your external device is not being routed to the TV's internal speakers. This is almost always caused by the TV's Sound Out setting being configured for an external audio system (like HDMI ARC or an optical output), which mutes the internal speakers. The TV is waiting to play sound through a different device. FIX Press the Settings (gear) button on your LG remote. Navigate to All Settings > Sound > Advanced Settings. Select Sound Out. Change the selection from HDMI ARC or External Speaker to TV Speaker. The sound should immediately return. Test with your HDMI device. IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The issue may be an incompatible audio format. Try these steps: On the same HDMI device, ensure its audio output is set to a compatible format like PCM or Stereo, not Bitstream or Dolby Digital. On the TV, go to All Settings > Sound > Advanced Settings > Digital Sound Out. Set this to PCM. Try a different, known-working HDMI cable. Test the external device on a different HDMI port on the TV to rule out a port-specific fault. HEADS UP HDMI port 2 on your 43UR7300PSA is the ARC (Audio Return Channel) port. If you connect a soundbar or AV receiver to this port, you must set Sound Out to HDMI ARC. For all other standard HDMI devices (like game consoles or streaming boxes), Sound Out should be set to TV Speaker for sound to come from the TV itself.

Question 4

the tv won't connect to my 5ghz wifi, only finds the 2.4, my other devices work fine

Accepted Answer

DIAGNOSIS Your LG TV's wireless hardware or software has limited 5GHz band support. It cannot detect the specific channel your router is currently using, often because the router is set to a DFS (Dynamic Frequency Selection) channel (52-144) or a high-band channel (149-165) that the TV's wireless module doesn't recognize. This is a common compatibility issue with some smart TVs. FIX Access your router's admin settings via a web browser on a computer or phone. Locate the wireless settings for your 5GHz network. Manually change the 5GHz channel to a lower, non-DFS channel like 36, 40, or 44. Apply the settings and allow your router to reboot. On your LG TV, go to All Settings > Connection > Network > Wi-Fi Connection and select Scan again. Your 5GHz network should now appear. IF THAT DIDN'T WORK First, perform a power cycle: unplug the TV and your router for 60 seconds, then plug them back in. If the issue persists, reset the TV's network settings (Settings > General > Reset to Initial Settings > Network Settings Reset). As a last resort, the internal Wi-Fi antenna cable connection could be loose; securing it requires opening the TV's back panel, which should only be attempted if you are comfortable with electronics repair. HEADS UP Forcing your router to use a standard low-band channel (36-48) is the most reliable fix. Avoid "Auto" channel selection on your router, as it frequently chooses DFS channels that many TVs cannot see.

Question 5

how do i clean the screen on this lg without ruining it? the manual is scary

Accepted Answer

DIAGNOSIS The LG 43UR7300PSA features a sophisticated 4K LED panel with a specialized anti-glare coating. This layer is chemically sensitive; using harsh household chemicals, abrasive sponges, or excessive pressure can cause permanent "clouding," streaks, or physical scratches that cannot be buffed out. The goal is to remove oils and dust without stripping the chemical treatment or forcing liquid into the bezel where the electronics reside. FIX Power Down: Turn off the TV and unplug it from the wall. A dark screen makes smudges more visible and prevents electrical shorts if moisture is used. Dry Dusting: Use a clean, high-density microfiber cloth. Gently wipe the screen in a consistent horizontal or vertical direction. Avoid circular motions, as this can smear oils across the panel. Tackling Smudges: If dry wiping fails, lightly dampen a second microfiber cloth with distilled water. Do not use tap water, as minerals can leave white streaks or scratch the surface. The "Damp-Dry" Method: Wring the cloth out until it is barely damp to the touch. Wipe the affected area gently, then immediately follow up with the dry microfiber cloth to remove any lingering moisture. IF THAT DIDN'T WORK For stubborn organic residue or grease that water cannot move, create a solution of 50% distilled water and 50% white distilled vinegar. Apply the solution to the cloth—never directly to the screen. Wipe the spot with minimal pressure. Immediately dry the area with a clean microfiber cloth to prevent the vinegar from etching the coating. HEADS UP Never use Windex, glass cleaners, rubbing alcohol, acetone, or paper towels. Paper towels are made of wood pulp and will create microscopic scratches. Most importantly, never spray any liquid directly onto the screen; gravity will pull the fluid into the bottom edge of the panel, which can cause permanent vertical line failures or a complete board short.

Question 6

webos is so slow and laggy on this tv, menus take forever to load, is mine broken?

Accepted Answer

DIAGNOSIS Your TV is likely not hardware-broken. The 43UR7300PSA uses a mid-range processor that can struggle when the webOS system cache becomes bloated or when too many background processes are running. Laggy menus and slow app launches are typically caused by "system clutter"—accumulated temporary data, fragmented storage, and background updates that consume the limited available RAM. FIX To restore snappiness to the interface, follow these optimization steps: Clear System Cache: Navigate to All Settings > General > System > Storage. Identify apps using excessive space and clear their cache. Additionally, go to General > System and select "Delete Viewing History" and "Delete Voice Recognition Information" to prune unnecessary database files. Run Device Care: Go to All Settings > Support > Device Care and select "Optimize Now." This utility flushes temporary files and optimizes the system's current memory allocation. Disable Quick Start+: Go to All Settings > General > Devices > TV Management and toggle off "Quick Start+". While this makes the TV take slightly longer to turn on, it forces a full system reboot every time you power off, preventing the RAM from becoming clogged over time. IF THAT DIDN'T WORK If the lag persists, try these advanced steps: Perform a Power Cycle: While the TV is on, unplug the power cord from the wall. Wait at least 60 seconds. While unplugged, hold the physical power button on the TV chassis for 15 seconds to drain remaining capacitors. Plug it back in. Limit Background Apps: Uninstall any apps you do not use frequently. Each installed app can occasionally trigger background update checks that eat into CPU cycles. Network Refresh: Sometimes "menu lag" is actually a network timeout. Restart your router or switch from Wi-Fi to a wired Ethernet connection to see if the UI responsiveness improves. HEADS UP Avoid performing a full Factory Reset unless absolutely necessary, as this removes all account credentials and custom calibrations. Be aware that because this model has limited onboard storage, you will need to repeat the "Device Care" optimization every few months to maintain peak performance.

Question 7

tv makes a loud clicking sound from the back every few minutes, it's driving me nuts

Accepted Answer

DIAGNOSIS The clicking or popping sound you are hearing from your LG 43UR7300PSA is a phenomenon known as thermal expansion and contraction. As the internal components—specifically the LED backlight strips and the main power board—heat up during operation, the plastic chassis and the metal internal frame expand at different rates. When the tension between the rigid plastic housing and the internal mounting points reaches a breaking point, the plastic "slips" or snaps against a screw head or a plastic clip, creating a sharp clicking sound. This is most common in the 43-inch UR series because the chassis is lightweight and uses high-tension plastic snaps to keep the back panel secure. You can confirm this is the cause if the clicking happens most frequently in the first 30 minutes of powering on the TV or immediately after you turn it off. If the sound is rhythmic and accompanied by a flickering screen or a failure to boot, it is an electrical issue; however, random, sporadic pops are almost always mechanical stress from heat. FIX To resolve this, you need to relieve the mechanical tension on the rear housing to allow the plastic to expand without snapping. Power down the TV and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet. Wait 5 minutes for the internal capacitors to discharge. Carefully lay the TV face-down on a flat surface covered by a thick microfiber blanket or a foam yoga mat to prevent scratching the 4K panel. Using a Phillips #2 screwdriver, remove the screws securing the rear plastic cover. Pay close attention to the screws located near the bottom vents and the corners, as these are the primary stress points. Instead of tightening them fully upon reassembly, thread the screws in until they are finger-tight, then give them only a 1/8th to 1/4 turn. The goal is for the screw to hold the panel in place without compressing the plastic against the frame. Check the plastic snap-clips around the perimeter. If any feel excessively tight, gently press them inward with a plastic pry tool to ensure they are seated deeply in their slots. Reinstall the back cover and plug the TV back in to test for 60 minutes of continuous playback. IF THAT DIDN'T WORK Check the Wall Mount Torque: If the TV is VESA mounted, the clicking may be coming from the mounting brackets. If the bolts are over-tightened into the chassis, the TV cannot expand naturally against the wall. Loosen the four VESA mounting bolts by half a turn to allow for slight movement. Inspect the Power Supply Board (PSU): If the clicking is a rapid, electrical-sounding "tick-tick-tick," it may be a failing capacitor or a relay on the power board. Look for bulging capacitors (tops that are rounded rather than flat) on the internal power board. If found, the board needs to be replaced. Adjust Ambient Temperature: If the TV is placed in an enclosed cabinet or too close to a heat source (like a radiator or fireplace), the internal temperature spikes faster than the plastic can handle. Move the TV at least 4 inches away from the wall to increase airflow and reduce the heat delta. Disable Energy Saving Mode: Sometimes, aggressive power-cycling of the backlight in "Eco Mode" causes rapid heating and cooling cycles. Go to Settings > General > Energy Saving and set it to "Off" to maintain a consistent temperature. HEADS UP Never use a power drill to tighten the back screws; the plastic threads in the UR7300 series strip easily, which will cause the back panel to rattle. Avoid using canned air directly into the vents while the TV is hot, as the rapid cooling can trigger more loud popping sounds. If you notice a burning smell accompanying the clicks, shut the unit down immediately, as this indicates a failing voltage regulator rather than thermal expansion. Always ensure the TV is completely powered off before removing the back cover to avoid shorting the main board.

Question 8

my new lg 43ur7300psa just shows a black screen with sound when i turn it on, picture never comes on

Accepted Answer

DIAGNOSIS You have sound, which confirms the TV's main processor and power supply are mostly functional. The black screen with audible audio points to a failure in the video signal path between the main board and the LCD panel itself. Since you can hear sound, the backlight is likely on but very dim (you may see a faint glow in a dark room). The most common culprits are a loose connection on the T-Con (Timing Control) board, a failed T-Con board, or a faulty main board not sending the correct video signal. FIX First, perform a soft reset: unplug the TV from the wall outlet, hold the physical power button on the TV (if present) for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and power on. If that fails, internal inspection is needed. Unplug the TV for at least one hour. Remove the back cover by unscrewing all screws along the edges. Locate the long, narrow T-Con board; it's mounted near the center top, connected to the main board via a single flat cable and to the LCD panel with two thin, wide ribbon cables. Carefully unplug and firmly reseat the ribbon cable connections on the T-Con board. Reassemble and test. IF THAT DIDN'T WORK If reseating cables doesn't help, the T-Con board (part number 6870L-2583A) or the main board (EAX67177504) has likely failed. You'll need to test voltages on the T-Con board's fuses with a multimeter or swap in a known-good board. For most users, the next step is ordering a replacement main board, as it's the more common point of failure and easier to swap. Ensure any replacement board matches your TV's exact model and serial number prefix. HEADS UP TV internals hold high-voltage charge even when unplugged. Avoid touching the large silver capacitors on the power supply board. Always ground yourself by touching the TV's metal chassis before handling circuit boards, and never touch the gold contacts on the ribbon cables.
