This typically occurs due to a "logic hang" in the printer's firmware or a failure in the Low Voltage Power Supply (LVPS) rail that specifically feeds the LCD panel. When the fan runs but the screen is dead, it confirms the primary AC-to-DC conversion is working, but the handshake between the mainboard and the control panel has failed. To confirm this is a display failure rather than a total system crash, attempt to send a print job from a connected PC or mobile device. If the printer processes the job and prints the page despite the blank screen, the issue is isolated to the control panel assembly or the ribbon cable connecting it to the mainboard. If the printer does not respond to print jobs and the screen remains black, the mainboard is likely stuck in a boot loop or has suffered a component failure (such as a blown capacitor) that prevents the CPU from booting.
How to Fix It
Before assuming hardware failure, you must perform a "hard cold boot" to clear the volatile memory and reset the display controller.

- Test with a Different Power Source: Swap the power cable with a known working IEC cable of the same gauge. A partial break in the internal wiring of the cable can sometimes provide enough current to spin a low-draw fan but not enough to ignite the backlight of the LCD.
- Replace the Control Panel Assembly: If the ribbon cable is secure and the printer prints but the screen remains black, the LCD module has failed. This requires replacing the entire front panel assembly. Ensure you source the part specific to the HL-L3280CDW to avoid compatibility issues with the button mapping.
