Direction is critical. Incorrect installation causes poor cutting, no oiling, and rapid wear.
- Engage the chain brake. Push the chain-kickback brake handle forward.
- Place power head on its side, side cover up. Turn quick chain-tension adjust knob counterclockwise to remove cover.
- Locate directional arrows. Small arrows are engraved on the saw chain links. A corresponding arrow is on the power head near the sprocket.
- Loop chain onto guide bar. Place chain drive links into guide bar groove. Make a loop at back of guide bar.
- Hold chain on bar, loop around power head sprocket. Arrows on chain must point in same direction as arrow on power head.
- Replace side cover. Tighten quick chain-tension adjust knob fully. Eccentric gear inside auto-aligns components.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK: Verify chain model. This saw uses specific chains: 91PX062X, 90PX056X, or 90PX052X. A non-compatible chain will not fit or run correctly.
HEADS UP: Always wear heavy-duty non-slip gloves when handling the saw chain. The cutters are extremely sharp.
