replacing the chain on my ego cs1800e, which way does it go on? the manual is confusing.

Direction is critical. Incorrect installation causes poor cutting, no oiling, and rapid wear.

  1. Engage the chain brake. Push the chain-kickback brake handle forward.
  2. Place power head on its side, side cover up. Turn quick chain-tension adjust knob counterclockwise to remove cover.
  3. Locate directional arrows. Small arrows are engraved on the saw chain links. A corresponding arrow is on the power head near the sprocket.
  4. Loop chain onto guide bar. Place chain drive links into guide bar groove. Make a loop at back of guide bar.
  5. Hold chain on bar, loop around power head sprocket. Arrows on chain must point in same direction as arrow on power head.
  6. Replace side cover. Tighten quick chain-tension adjust knob fully. Eccentric gear inside auto-aligns components.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK: Verify chain model. This saw uses specific chains: 91PX062X, 90PX056X, or 90PX052X. A non-compatible chain will not fit or run correctly.

HEADS UP: Always wear heavy-duty non-slip gloves when handling the saw chain. The cutters are extremely sharp.
