the basket is ridiculously hard to push in and pull out of my gourmia, feels like it's scraping or catching

— asked by Casey

DIAGNOSIS Grease and food debris have built up in the tracks or on the basket's guide rails. It's a friction fit, and gunk makes it sticky.

FIX Unplug and let it cool. Pull the basket out completely. Wipe down the silver guide rails on the basket with a soapy cloth, then dry. Inside the unit, use a damp cloth or soft brush to clean the two grooves the rails slide into. A tiny bit of cooking oil on a paper towel rubbed on the basket rails can help, but wipe off any excess.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The basket might be warped from high heat or impact. Check if it sits flat. If the rails are bent, it won't slide smoothly. You'll need a replacement basket from Gourmia.

HEADS UP Never force it. If it's not sliding easily, something's wrong. Forcing it can break the plastic housing or misalign the safety switch that tells the unit the basket is inserted, preventing it from starting.
