The sudden drop from 3 bars to 1 bar on the INOKIM Light 2 Super is typically not a sign of a completely "dead" battery, but rather a symptom of severe cell imbalance or a "voltage sag" caused by high internal resistance. The battery pack consists of multiple lithium-ion cell groups wired in series. The Battery Management System (BMS) monitors the voltage of each group; if one group's voltage drops significantly faster than the others under load, the BMS triggers a low-voltage warning to protect the cells, causing the indicator to plummet even if other cells still have plenty of energy.
This happens because the BMS on the Light 2 Super is designed to report the status based on the *lowest* performing cell group, not the average. When you accelerate, the current draw causes a momentary voltage dip. If a specific cell group is degraded or out of balance, its voltage hits the "critical" threshold almost immediately, forcing the display to show 1 bar. You can confirm this by noting if the battery bars "bounce back" up to 2 or 3 bars once you stop accelerating and the scooter comes to a complete halt.
How to Fix It
To resolve a minor imbalance, you must force the BMS to perform a deep balancing cycle. The charger typically shuts off as soon as the overall pack voltage reaches the target, but individual cells may still be undercharged. Follow these steps precisely:
- Drain the scooter battery until it reaches the 1-bar mark or the scooter enters a low-power state. Do not let it drop to 0%, but get it low enough to create a wide gap for the charger to fill.
- Plug in the official INOKIM charger. Wait for the LED indicator on the charger brick to turn from red to green.
- Crucial Step: Once the light turns green, do not unplug the scooter. Leave the charger connected for an additional 12 to 24 hours. This "trickle" phase allows the BMS to bleed off excess voltage from the strongest cells and top up the weakest cells to a uniform level.
- Disconnect the charger and ride the scooter normally until the battery reaches 1 bar again.
- Repeat this full cycle (deep drain followed by a 24-hour over-charge) three consecutive times. This repetitive process is often the only way to recalibrate the BMS and stabilize the voltage across all cell groups.
If That Didn't Work
- Perform a Voltage Sag Test: Use a multimeter to check the voltage at the charging port when the scooter is idle versus when the throttle is engaged. If the voltage drops by more than 3-5V instantly upon acceleration, the internal resistance of the cells has increased too much, meaning the chemistry has degraded and the pack requires physical replacement.
- Inspect for Loose Battery Connectors: Open the battery compartment and check the XT60 or similar power connectors. A loose or oxidized connection can create a "bottleneck" that mimics a voltage drop. Clean the contacts with isopropyl alcohol and ensure all plugs are seated tightly.
- BMS Component Failure: If the cells are balanced but the indicator still jumps, the BMS board itself may have a failing shunt resistor or a faulty voltage sensing wire. This requires a technician to probe the individual balance leads to see if the BMS is reporting a "false" low voltage.
- Full Pack Replacement: If the balancing cycles fail, the battery pack (typically 36V) has likely developed a "dead cell." Because these packs are spot-welded, attempting to replace a single 18650 cell is dangerous and not recommended. Replace the entire battery assembly with a genuine INOKIM Super series pack to ensure compatibility with the onboard controller.

- Avoid Deep Discharge: Never let your battery hit 0%. Regularly discharging to absolute zero accelerates the degradation of the cells and makes imbalance issues permanent.
- Temperature Management: Do not charge the scooter immediately after a ride. Let the battery cool for 30 minutes to avoid thermal stress on the BMS.
- Storage Voltage: If storing the scooter for more than two weeks, keep the battery at approximately 50-70% charge. Storing it at 100% or 0% for long periods will cause the cells to drift out of balance.
- Charger Authenticity: Only use the original INOKIM charger. Third-party chargers often have different cutoff voltages that can confuse the BMS and lead to the exact indicator issues described here.
