Diagnosis
The indicator light is controlled by a thermal sensor in the knob module. If it stays on, the sensor thinks the burner grate is still hot, usually because of a faulty sensor or a problem with the knob control switch.
How to Fix It
First, rule out actual residual heat. Let the range cool completely for several hours. If the light remains on with a cold cooktop, the issue is electrical.
- The most common fix is to replace the control knob assembly for that specific burner.
- Pull the knob straight off.
- Behind it, you'll see the valve stem and switch assembly. This requires accessing the top panel and gas manifold—if you're not comfortable with gas appliances, stop here and call a technician.
- A tech would test the switch continuity and replace the faulty knob/switch assembly.
If That Didn't Work
If replacing the knob switch doesn't work, the signal may be getting stuck on the main control board. This is a less common but more complex repair.
Heads Up
This is a safety feature. While the light being stuck on is likely just an annoyance, you should treat that burner as if it *is* hot for safety until it's repaired. Do not disable the indicator.
